A Dog Will Solve Crimes on New TNT Series

Towards the end of the golden age of Hollywood —an era in which people didn't waste time arguing about the merit in everything they watched—a fantastic concept appeared in the form of a Tom Hanks movie: Turner & Hooch. We encountered the crime fighting team of an uptight detective and his mangy but invaluable dog. In entertainment today, where the AMC network is working towards world domination, those of us who love a good silly concept might be disheartened from time to time when we think, ""They just don't make 'em like that anymore."" But our time has come once again.

TNT is putting together the pilot for a new detective procedural. But this one will have a chemistry beyond that of Law & Order: SVU's Stabler and Benson, Rizzoli and Isles, the two guys from Psych. Instead, it takes a page from the Turner & Hooch book; this new pilot, Scent of the Missing, will focus on an ""adrenaline junkie"" female detective and her partner: a rescue dog named McGruff, who specializes in the discovery of murder victims. The idea is actually derived from a non-fiction book by author Susannah Charleson with see CSI executive producer Carol Mendelsohn on board as well.

As far as those ridiculously addictive detective procedurals go, this one promises amazement. Yes, it'll probably be a little silly. Yes, it'll probably tread the line of ""Oh, come on!"" a few times. But yes (I'm just assuming you're all asking the questions I would answer affirmatively), it's going to be entertaining television. The bottom line: who doesn't love dogs?
