Franklin snack maker adding 205 new jobs

MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - A maker of snacks in suburban Milwaukee announced an expansion today that would add up to 205 new jobs.

Baptista’s Bakery plans to double the size of its production facility in Franklin.

Ground-breaking is scheduled for October, and the project would be completed next spring.

That hinges on the approval of a city grant. Officials won’t say what the amount is, until Franklin’s Community Development Authority acts on the matter September 21st.

Today, Governor Scott Walker said Baptista’s would be eligible for nearly $2.3 million dollars in state income tax credits. The company itself plans to invest around $70-million.

Franklin Mayor Tom Taylor calls Baptista’s a business that any community would love to have. It now hires 160 people – and 75 of the new workers would be hired as soon as possible so they can be trained.

Nan Gardetto started Baptista’s Bakery 11 years ago, after her family had sold the snack maker Gardetto’s Bakery to General Mills in 1999.
