FX Picks Up Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management' Series

Backlash against the new Two and a Half Men has been plentiful from avid Charlie Sheen supporters. Despite (or perhaps, because of) his notorious behavior over the past year, Sheen has raked in a huge amount of support for his comedic prowess. So, I can't imagine that his new series, Anger Management, won't bring in a healthy following. And FX must feel the same way, as the network just ordered 10 episodes of Sheen's sitcom, with showrunner Bruce Helford (The Drew Carey Show, The George Lopez Show) attached.

The series, based on the 2003 Adam Sandler/Jack Nicholson comedy film of the same name about a timid man who is at the relentless mercy of a lunatic psychologist specializing in anger management therapy, is set to air on FX in summer 2012. Sheen will adopt Nicholson's psychologist role. No word yet on who will play his hapless victim, or if the show will take a different approach with various patients suffering through the character's unorthodox practices.

But one thing we can predict: people will watch. Two and a Half Men's season premiere won huge ratings, in part because people wanted to see how Ashton Kutcher would match up to Sheen. Even now that he has settled down a bit, the man is a character beyond the screen. And this role, calling for more craziness than any other Sheen role, will certainly appeal to those who love him.
