SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - A Washington man is facing criminal charges after attempting to break into a church, then fleeing police Tuesday night. 26 year old Francis Harrington Jr was formally charged Wednesday in Sheboygan County Court with criminal damage to religious property - a felony - after allegedly breaking a window at the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church on North 27th Street in Sheboygan around 10pm, then running from the scene when police arrived. After searching the area, officers caught up with Harrington and placed him in handcuffs, at which time Harrington asked why he was being placed under arrest. He denied attempting to enter the church, saying he had only been walking around carrying a bottle of liquor, although a witness positively identified him as the man who tried to break into the church. If convicted, Harrington could spend up to 4 years behind bars.
