SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Sheboygan City Clerk Sue Richards and her staff are battling a December first deadline as they go over signatures on the petitions calling for the recall of Mayor Bob Ryan. Richards says with the holidays coming up, the time is drawing short and they are working feverishly to get the job done. Meanwhile, Richards is also reviewing Ryan’s challenge of the reason for the recall. She says she may be able to make a determination as to whether the challenge is sufficient. She said Ryan can also take his challenge to circuit court. She said, if the petitions are certified, she will turn them over to the city council on December 5th. Candidates could begin circulating nomination papers on the 6th and would have until December 20th to turn them in. The recall election would be held on January 17th. If more than two candidates run, and no one gets more than a 50 percent majority, a second election would be held 4 weeks later. There are currently 5 candidates who have filed intentions to run.
