MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WHBL) - Nyjer Morgan hit a walk-off double last night to give the Milwaukee Brewers a 7-to-6 win over the New York Mets at Miller Park. Morgan said he thought it was the eighth inning, and he didn’t know at first why his teammates had mobbed him on the field. Milwaukee had a 2-to-1 lead until the Mets scored five runs in the top of the eighth off reliever Kameron Loe. The Brewers came back to tie it with four in the bottom of the eighth. Morgan’s game-winning hit in the ninth scored Craig Counsell from second base. Prince Fielder hit a pair of two-run homers and took over the Major League R-B-I lead with 54. Ryan Braun doubled twice, singled, scored twice, and had two R-B-I’s. Closer John Axford got the win. He’s 2-and-1. Dale Thayer took the loss. He’s 0-and-1. Ronny Paulino hit went 4-for-4 and hit a three-run homer for Mets. And Jose Reyes extended his hitting streak to 12 games for New York, which broke a three-game winning streak. Milwaukee just barely avoided losing its first back-to-back games at home, where they’re now 22-and-8. The Brewers have won 14-of-their-last-18 overall, and they’re back to within one-and-a-half games of first place in the National League Central. The Brewers and Mets will close out their three-game series tonight. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo will face Mets’ left-hander Jonathon Niese. Coverage on WHBL gets underway at 6:35.
