NEW YORK (Reuters) - Donnie Walsh is leaving his job as president of the New York Knicks at the end of the month, the team said on Friday.

Walsh, who has been with the Knicks for the past three seasons, will vacate his post when his current contract expires at the end of June.

"In a relatively short time with the Knicks, Donnie made a tremendous impact, which will be felt for many years to come," Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan said in a statement.

"We thank Donnie for his leadership, hard work and many contributions to the revitalization of the team."

Dolan said Walsh's departure had been mutually agreed and he would remain as a consultant next season. Glen Grunewald, currently senior vice president, will take over as the interim general manager.
