Prosecutors finish presenting evidence in AZ sweat lodge death case

by

CAMP VERDE, AZ. (WTAQ) - After two-and-a-half months, prosecutors were about to rest their case Friday in the Arizona trial of a man accused of causing a Milwaukee man’s death at a sweat lodge ceremony.

The jury in the James Arthur Ray trial has heard from participants in the 2009 ceremony where 40-year-old James Shore of Milwaukee and two others died. The prosecution also presented detailed testimony law enforcement, emergency responders, and medical experts.

The defense expects to have about a week’s worth of testimony from its witnesses. And then they’ll ask the judge to throw out the charges, claiming the prosecution has not proven its case.

The state said Ray acted recklessly when Shore and the others died at a heated event near Sedona Arizona. The defense claims it was a tragic accident – and toxins and other poisons may have been to blame.
