CHICAGO, Ill. (WSAU) – Oprah Winfrey is expected to tell her T-V audience later today that she has a half-sister in Milwaukee – and she didn’t know about her until just recently.
USA Today broke the story this morning.
The newspaper said Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee, gave up the half-sister for adoption after she was born in 1963. The woman is named Patricia – and she now has two grown children including a daughter and a son.
Winfrey is expected to say that Patricia lived in foster homes until she was seven years old – and she was a single mom at 17.
Winfrey was born in rural Mississippi but moved to Milwaukee with Lee in 1960. She left during her teenage years.
