MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WSAU) - A Milwaukee firm will get over 200-million-dollars to provide material handling systems for the new U-S Navy ships to be built in Marinette and Alabama.
The Oldenburg Group said today it would build cranes, launching systems, lift-platforms, and hatch covers for the 55 littoral combat ships recently approved by Congress. Marinette Marine and a firm in Mobile Alabama are both building ships. Oldenburg says engineering and administrative work for its contract will be done in Kingsford Michigan – and the material handling systems will be made at Rhinelander and Iron River Michigan.
The added work in Wisconsin was expected to create a-thousand jobs at Marinette Marine – plus five-thousand jobs for various suppliers in Wisconsin and nearby Michigan.
