SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - As Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan prepares to kick off his recall election campaign Thursday night, he’s expressing concern about the city council’s action on Monday, which suspends the removal process against him. Ryan says it should have been scrapped completely since even the possibility of removal taints the election. Ryan says people will say, "If I vote for him will they remove him anyway?" Ryan will hold a rally from 5 to 7 tonight at the Brisco County Wood Grill to officially launch his campaign for the election, which is scheduled for January 17th. Meanwhile, Ryan’s opponent in the last election became the first candidate to turn in completed nomination papers. Terry Van Akkeren submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday. He is one of several candidates preparing to challenge Ryan. Candidates have until Tuesday to turn in the 200 signatures, which are required to get on the ballot. (Portion of audio courtesy WTMJ)
