WAUSAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - A Marinette County official said a tornado popped up so quickly last Friday, there was no time to warn folks in Wausaukee.
But emergency management director Eric Burmeister said it would not have made any difference for the man who died, 43-year-old Doug Brem.
Burmeister said the victim was working in a mobile home up to two miles away from the nearest warning siren. And Brem probably would not have heard the siren, had it sounded.
His mobile home was lifted off its foundation by the EF-1 tornado, which had winds of up to 105-miles-an-hour. A second mobile home was destroyed, but Burmeister said other homes had much lesser damage – including things like holes in roofs, and torn shingles.
Damage to homes and businesses was estimated at up to $150,000.
Estimates of rural-and-timber damage are still pending.
A siren did sound up the road in Crivitz, but that was after the storm had hit Wausaukee.
