KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- Justin Verlander became the first pitcher to reach 17 wins in the American League Thursday firing 7 strong innings en route to a 4-3 Tigers win. The win gave the Tigers a 3-game-cushion on the tribe, which had been closing on the Tigers following an extra innings win Tuesday and a 10-3 win on Wednesday.
Verlander allowed only 3 hits in the game while Jose Valverde recorded his 33rd save of the season allowing no hits and no walks to secure the win. The Tigers and Indians play 10 more games this season ending in a 3-game-series in Detroit.
