DE PERE, Wis. (WSAU) - On this Earth Day, a new poll finds most Wisconsinites strongly support more wind power – even if it means paying a little extra on their electric bills.
A St. Norbert College-Wisconsin Public Radio poll finds 77 percent favor a bigger investment in high-tech wind mills. Sixty-nine percent wouldn’t mind turbines close to where they live and 79 percent favor putting them in Lake Michigan – where it really gets windy.
But that’s different than what Governor Scott Walker is hearing.
Walker cites complaints from Realtors in proposing that new wind turbines be located more than a-third-of-a-mile from a rural residential property. But that has not been adopted, after the wind energy industry said it would virtually shut off new growth in Wisconsin.
