UNDATED (WSAU) A contracted accounting worker was charged yesterday with embezzling about $7800 from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department. 27-year-old Erik Bleichner of Racine was charged with felony theft in a business setting. A judge issued a warrant, and Bleichner was later arrested. He’s being held in the neighboring Kenosha County Jail for now.
Bleichner was employed by the firm of Securitas as a full-time bookkeeper for the Racine sheriff’s office. Prosecutors said he was caught taking money from bond envelopes. Bleichner reportedly told officers he did it to catch up on his bills, and help his father pay his mortgage. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Dan Klatt said his department would keep using Securitas, but it would change its accounting procedures if need be. Records did not indicate when Bleichner would make his first court appearance.
