Michigan State has put itself into position for a run at a Big Ten title with its 34-to-17 win Saturday at Michigan. The Spartans improved to 6-and-0 for the first time since 1999 and can look forward to the rest of their schedule knowing they don’t have to play Ohio State this year. The Spartans will host Illinois on Saturday while Michigan will host Iowa.
One negative note for Michigan State, starting cornerback Chris L. Rucker will not be in the lineup for the Spartans this coming weekend. Dantonio said Rucker is suspended for at least one game for an unspecified violation of team rules.
And there’s a new number one team in college football. Ohio State takes over the top spot, moving up to replace Alabama, which falls to eighth place in the polls after being upset by South Carolina.
