MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin’s largest school district is doing its part to help families hurt by this summer’s flooding.
The Milwaukee Public Schools says it will waive up to $100 in student fees for those who lost more than $1,000 in the July 22nd storms – or who were forced to leave their homes for more than 3 days.
Poorer families don’t need as many losses to qualify – only $500 in damages will do it. To get the discount, families must fill out one-page forms and prove their losses with either receipts, or copies of claims they sent to federal officials to get emergency aid.
School social workers will review the requests for fee discounts. And eligible families will get reimbursed if they already paid the student fees.
