MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin’s two largest cities are relatively safe places to drive – but a new study says they’re not as safe as a year ago.
Allstate Insurance studies its damage claims to figure that the average Milwaukee driver will get into an accident once every 10.6 years. That makes Milwaukee the 42nd safest out of 200 cities in the Allstate survey – but that’s down from 19th place a year ago.
Madison is also little less safe to drive in. The typical driver in the Capital City can expect a crash once every 11.1 years. That’s the 26th best in the nation, but Madison was the 13th best last year at this time.
Fort Collins Colorado was the safest place in the Allstate survey. Drivers there only get into crashes once every 14.5 years. This is the 6th year of the annual study.
Allstate says crashes have dropped in general the past few years. But traffic deaths still average around 35,000 each year, despite improvements in vehicle technology.
