SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (WTAQ) - Federal authorities will investigate the crash of an experimental plane which flipped over as it tried to land at an airport near Sheboygan Falls. The pilot, 53-year-old Donald Wunsch of Reedsville, was treated at the scene for minor cuts and bruises. He had already escaped the aircraft by the time sheriff’s deputies responded.
It happened around 11 a.m. Sunday. Wunsch told officers he had left the Manitowoc County Airport, and was doing routine maneuvers when the single-engine plane apparently had engine trouble. He said he wanted to land at the Sheboygan County Airport – but he couldn’t make it to the runway, so he tried to land in a farm field. He said the front landing gear collapsed when the plane touched the ground, and it flipped over. Deputies said it received heavy damage to its tail and wings.
