MILWAUKEE (WSAU) About 200 alligators, crocodiles, boa constrictors, turtles, and other exotic animals are being removed from a house on Milwaukee’s south side. Zoo and animal shelter workers joined police yesterday in removing the animals – and the effort continues today. A 50-year-old resident of the two-story brick building is under arrest on possible charges of mistreating animals and violating rules for handling endangered-and-threatened species.
Authorities found some decomposed animal bodies, and others were sick. But Jay Christie of the Racine Zoo says most of the living animals should make full recoveries. The address is listed on-line as the “Cullen Vivarium Wildlife Conservancy.” Christie is helping state D-N-R workers and others identify the various types of animals.
Milwaukee Police first discovered them on Wednesday night, when they executed a search warrant at the house as part of a sexual assault investigation.
