MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Here's a sign that spring's on the way. The state Transportation Department will end its winter frozen road exemption at 12:01 a.m. Thursday for roads south of Highway 8 in northern Wisconsin. The declaration will continue north of Highway 8 until sometime next week. For the past couple months, state roads have allowed heavier weight limits for trucks carrying forest products and highway salt and sand.
Also, spring thaw restrictions go into effect Monday morning in all but the northern-most zone -- were the rules will take effect at a later undetermined date. More information is available at the DOT's Web site, accessible at Wisconsin.Gov.
