MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Singer Jimmy Buffett might have helped portable generators that were donated from Wisconsin get to earthquake victims in Haiti.
Briggs and Stratton of Milwaukee donated the 250 generators – but they were held in a customs office for about 8 weeks. Company official Laura Timm traveled to Haiti to find out what was going on.
She said she met Buffett at her hotel in Port-au-Prince, and told him why she was there. He called her the next morning, and said he would mention the generators during a meeting at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti. And within a week, the generators cleared customs.
Gail Warner of Briggs and Stratton says she doesn’t know exactly what happened. But it appeared that Buffett helped get them cleared.
