(Lansing, MI) -- Candidates from an organization calling itself the Tea Party could be eligible for the ballot in Michigan this fall. The group turned in more than 59-thousand petition signatures to the Secretary of State's office on Wednesday. It is unclear if any of the candidates are part of the loosely affiliated Tea Party that has been active in the state. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser said the group is an attempt by Democrats to "confuse Michigan voters." He implied that the Tea Party would siphon votes from candidates endorsed by conservatives, Republicans, and the Tea Party movement. The Tea Party slate of candidates must be filled by August 3rd.
