MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Milwaukee soldier returned from Iraq Wednesday just in time for the birth of his baby. Johana Ortiz went into labor Wednesday, just hours before her husband’s plane was scheduled to touch down. She went against her doctor’s advice and drove 2-and-a-half hours to Volk Field in Juneau County, where National Guard Specialist Melvin Ortiz was about to land. The 300 soldiers made it there about 4 p.m., and commanders told Ortiz about his wife’s condition and let him leave the plane first. He ran down the staircase, threw his backpack to another soldier, and rushed to a hangar to hug his wife. Soon after, Johana gave birth to her fourth child – a boy named Eduardo Ortiz.
