MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Milwaukee announced a major campaign 2 weeks ago to get parents to stop sleeping with their babies. And since then, 3 infants have died while sleeping in adult beds. 4-month-old Megan Borchart of Milwaukee is the latest victim. She died Sunday morning after falling asleep between her parents. They denied rolling onto the infant. And the mother told investigators she took steps to make it less risky for the child – like buying firm pillows which don’t move at night, tucking all the blankets in, and seeing that baby slept on her back. Also, 3-month-old Aiden Rink died last Tuesday in her mother’s bed in West Allis. The mother denied co-sleeping with her baby, and said she slept on a couch that night. The third victim, 17-month-old Zyeir Ellis, died New Year’s Day while sleeping with a young sister and an uncle in Milwaukee. City officials say the deaths do not lessen their campaign – but they reinforce the importance of having a baby sleep on his or her back separately from a parent on a firm mattress with a tight fitting sheet.
