MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A new poll gives Democrat Tom Barrett a one-point lead over Republican Scott Walker in the race for governor. The Mellman Group, a Democratic outfit in Washington, polled 600 likely voters in Wisconsin last month – and 40 percent chose Milwaukee Mayor Barrett while 39 percent favored Walker, the Milwaukee County executive. 21 percent were undecided. Republican Mark Neumann, the third major candidate, was not included in the poll. Last fall, Mellman had Barrett leading Walker by 2 points – and that was 2 months before Barrett announced his candidacy. The new poll also said just over half of Wisconsin voters knew of Barrett and Walker – even though both have run statewide campaigns before. The Mellman poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.
