MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Midwest Communications) - Folks in south Milwaukee are being told not to drink their tap water. The city’s predominant water main broke about 8 a.m. Friday – and officials said the pressure dropped so much, they were concerned that E-coli bacteria might get into the system.
Tests will be done to check for the bacteria.
South Milwaukee officials say people cannot make the water safe by boiling it – and they’ll need to run the system for 48 hours before the water can be safe for cooking, ice, brushing teeth, and washing babies.
In the meantime, broadcast reports say South Milwaukee is working with nearby Oak Creek to see if they can get temporary water from there.
