IOWA COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - A former co-star of the ABC TV series “Boston Legal” was killed Monday in a one-vehicle crash in southwest Wisconsin. 27-year-old Justin Mentell of Waukegan Illinois was found dead near his Jeep. It crashed down a steep embankment on Highway 39 north of Blanchardville in Iowa County. Mentell played attorney Garrett Wells on “Boston Legal” in 2005 and ’06. Chief sheriff’s deputy Jon Pepper said he had no idea what Mentell was doing in the area, but he was said to have friends in Madison. Pepper said the actor was alone when his Jeep went off the road and hit two trees. It apparently happened sometime after 3 a.m. Monday, although the crash site was not found until 8:30.
Mentell was a native of Texas, and officials say his funeral will most likely be there. He went to high school in Waukegan, when he was on the National Speedskating Long Track team. Mentell graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2005. He was in last year’s Disney movie “G-Force", as well as several independent films.
