BARRY COUNTY -- State Police say they know of only one person who died in traffic mishaps during their Lifesaver weekend, but we know of one other. They say a bicyclist was killed in a crash that involved alcohol. They missed the death of 19-year-old Christopher Leinaar of Delton, who went off the road and struck a tree sometime early Sunday morning in Barry County. Still at two deaths, that’s well below the 7 who died during the same weekend last year.
A Monday night crash in Jackson County has claimed the life of an Ypsilanti man. Police say 73-year old Arnold Webster ran out of gas along M-99, near Kimler Road, in Springport Township when he was hit by a car. Webster was pronounced dead at the scene, his wife and child, who were inside his vehicle, were taken to the hospital. Also, the driver of the car that hit him was hospitalized. None of their injuries are life-threatening. The accident remains under investigation police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
