MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Two Milwaukee police officers have been transferred to office duties, after a man they took into custody for a mental health issue became unresponsive and died.
The Milwaukee County district attorney’s office is reviewing the incident. The officers first ran into the 43 year old man on Saturday night, and a witness said he was talking to himself and acting strange.
Police said the officers decided that the man needed a mental health exam and he resisted efforts to be placed in custody. Spokeswoman Anne Schwartz said the officers used a “minimum amount of force” to handcuff the man and put him in a police wagon.
He became unresponsive while being transported, and he died at a hospital early yesterday. His name and other details were not immediately released.
