MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Milwaukee urban farmer Will Allen is on Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. The 61-year-old Allen speaks at workshops around the world to call attention to cities where people don’t have access to fresh, nutritious, and affordable food.
He and his non-profit Milwaukee group Growing Power run a 2 acre farm on the city’s northwest side. And they’re trying to raise up to $10 million in federal grants and private gifts for a 5-story urban farm that would make fresh vegetables and fish. It would be the first of its kind, and show cities around the world how to produce healthy food right next to thousands of consumers.
Allen has been hailed by several U.S. presidents. Now, he’s part of a Time Magazine list of those whose innovations and actions shape the world. The magazine hits the newsstands Friday.
