MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Two members of ACORN are due back in court May 6th on felony election fraud charges connected with the 2008 presidential election in Milwaukee. 36-year-old Maria Miles of Milwaukee and 26-year-old Kevin Clancy of Racine were first charged a month-and-a-half ago, and a judge will soon decide if there’s enough evidence to put them on trial.
Both are accused of trying to register the same voters more than once, so they could meet ACORN’s quota of 20 signatures per day. The community organizing group said Miles and Clancy were both fired after the fraud was discovered. ACORN has been dogged by voter registration fraud allegations, and Congress voted last year to cut off its federal funding.
The state Justice Department said Miles and Clancy were among 7 people charged recently with voter fraud. A couple was accused of voting twice, and the other 3 allegedly voted before completing their state obligations as convicted felons.
