MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Bills to name an official state motorcycle and microbe will be up for a vote in the Wisconsin Assembly Thursday. Harley-Davidson would become the state’s official bike. And the bacterium which turns milk into cheese would become the state’s official microbe. Harley and the Lactococcus Lactis would be the 27th and 28th state symbols.
And there might be a 29th, because a bill is pending to make cheese the official state snack. There’s been some criticism over the designation of Harley, which is based in Milwaukee. Some opponents say it’s wrong to single out a private company as an official symbol. And a group that opposes noise pollution has raised objections.
