DE PERE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A new poll shows that both major Republican candidates for governor are in a virtual tie – and either would beat the only major Democrat in the race. The Wisconsin Public Radio-St. Norbert College poll gives Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker a 24 to 23 percent edge over ex-Congressman Mark Neumann in the September primary. The poll also gives Walker a 44 to 28 percent edge over Democrat Tom Barrett. And Neumann, a home builder from Waukesha County, would have a 44-28 edge over Barrett.
There are large numbers of undecided voters, with the governor’s election still 7 months away. Barrett is the only one of the 3 major candidates to advertise on TV yet. The poll was taken from March 23rd through 31st. 400 Wisconsinites were questioned, and the poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.
