MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - Traffic has been a headache for metro Milwaukee drivers since a main bridge was closed last week for severe deterioration. That will change this weekend however, as a temporary span opens up the Zoo Interchange just in time for the Friday morning traffic jam.
Department of Transportation officials announced Wednesday that the temporary fix would open near 2 months ahead of schedule. 3 Zoo Interchange bridges will be replaced for more than $15 million by 2016.
The closure caused massive frustration among detoured drivers, who blamed Governor Jim Doyle for not funding the project earlier. Doyle has said funding for the project in 2016 was made long before he become the state's top official.
