MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) – Work has begun on a brand new data center to house and store patient records for Marshfield Clinic.
Marshfield Clinic’s commercial software wing Cattails Software will be the major occupant of the new facility. Marshfield Clinic Chief Technology Officer Carl Christensen says the new facility will serve a number of factors but most importantly reliability. He says that the clinic and Ministry Medical don’t ever want to have health care or emergency care delayed because a doctor can’t get access to patient records.
He says moving the data offsite will help keep it safer than if it was in the same building as the clinic in Marshfield where it’s housed now. The new building will also help keep servers cool and safe in a controlled environment, something that’s harder to offer at the current location.
The first phase of the project will cost 15 million dollars and is expected to be completed within about 10 months.
