UNDATED (WSAU) A new poll suggests that former Governor Tommy Thompson would be a strong contender for the U.S. Senate seat that's now held by Russ Feingold.
The survey from The Wisconsin Policy Research Institute and the U.W. political science department shows Thompson with 43-percent support; Feingold 39-percent. The poll has a 3-point-7 percent margin of error.
Thompson hasn't said publicly if he'll run for the Senate. He said earlier this year that he would discuss a possible run for Governor with his family.
Feingold's only declared challenger is David Westlake, a businessman from Watertown.
