Milwaukee's Mayor Stands By Police Chief Amid Affair Reports

MILWAUKEE (WRN) - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is standing by his police chief, amid reports that Ed Flynn has continued an extra-marital affair he promised to end in June. Flynn denies having a, “ongoing affair” with journalist Jessica McBride. But he told the Journal Sentinel he’s kept communicating with her, and the 2 did meet once. Former Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher has re-filed his divorce request from McBride that he pulled a few months ago. And in yesterday’s Waukesha Freeman, Bucher called on Flynn to resign, saying the chief has, “crushed our family.” Bucher told a Milwaukee TV station he recently confronted Flynn, and asked if having sex with McBride in mid-September helped solve the 2 men’s marriage problems – and Flynn said it didn’t. Barrett says Flynn’s efforts have reduced overall crime in Milwaukee for the past 2 years – and he won’t comment on the chief’s personal issues. Flynn is 61. McBride is 39. She’s a journalism lecturer at UW-Milwaukee and a columnist for the Waukesha Freeman. Both admitted having an affair this summer, after McBride wrote a glowing profile about the police chief for Milwaukee Magazine. Bucher is a private attorney who ran for state attorney general in 2006. He and McBride have a 4-year-old daughter.
