STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) – Stevens Point school district residents can help the school board figure out how to move forward with a major budget deficit by attending a listening session tonight.
The meeting, which was originally scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bliss administration center, is being moved to the auditorium at Ben Franklin Junior High.
Superintendent Steve Johnson says they're looking at a multi-million dollar shortfall in their budget after the rejection of a major funding referendum in the November elections. And the school board would like to hear from residents about why they voted it down.
Johnson says the school board will have a number of choices moving forward. They can either start cutting programs and teachers, start spending money out of their general fund to make up the difference, or make another try for a referendum in the April elections.
