MILWAUKEE (WRN) - A Milwaukee TV journalist who later became an advocate for those with breast cancer has died from that disease. 59-year-old Melodie Wilson passed away Monday night at her home in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills. She spent 18 years at WTMJ-TV, many of them as a nightly 10 o’clock news anchor. Wilson left in 1992, the year she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she joined WITI-TV in Milwaukee. Wilson left TV for good in ’98 to start a group called After Breast Cancer Diagnosis, or ABCD. It provided one on one mentoring for breast cancer survivors. In 2007, Wilson spoke out after learning that her own cancer was terminal. Her husband, Wayne Oldenburg, said Wilson was told 9 months ago that she only had 2 to 6 weeks to live – and yet, she continued to devote her time to her family and her ABCD group.
