A boarded up house is actually seen as a sign of hope on Milwaukee's south side. Milwaukee police say they had received several calls about gang activity on the property at 35th and West Becher Street. At least one shooting happened there. Cops say they also found narcotics, ammunition and gang signs. That led city officials to board the place up. The property owners have until January to sell the nuisance property or give it to the city. Neighbors say this makes them optimistic because the city's act of boarding the property up has driven gang members away and has given their neighborhood a chance to come back.
