This policy is confined to the Op-Ed page. Letter writers will not be censored if they used the word. And that's interesting. By calling it the "R-Word," I assume they find it as offensive as the "N-Word." Do they censor letters with the N-word in them? I'm guessing they do. If they do, how can they ban it from their own usage but not readers' usage, as I'm almost certain they do the n-word? I'm guessing the reprieve for comments and letters will be short-lived.
Former Giants QB Phil Simms said he won't use it in NFL broadcast, as have other sportscasters. The elite are trying to shame the Redskins into changing their name. I suspect sooner, rather than later, it will work.
