State Representative Duey Stroebel has announced he's joining the primary field for the Republican nomination for the 6th Congressional District. Stroebel had been expected to challenge incumbent Tom Petri but put an announcement on his intentions on hold after State Senator Glenn Grothman jumped in.
Stroebel seemed to have a sense this week that a Petri retire announcement was imminent when he released to the media an email he had sent to Republican County Chairs in the 6th CD where he certainly sounded like a candidate. Petri did announce Friday he wasn't running and now Stroebel is in.
The field is expected to grow; State Senator Joe Leibham, 15 minutes after the Petri announcement, issued a release that he is considering entering the race and there are other possible candidates, including Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald.
If Leibham and Fitzgerald do enter the race, voters in the 6th CD would have an extremely difficult decision. In my opinion all four would be exceptional candidates.
