It's the end of an era.
The NCAA will no longer allow Electronic Arts, Inc., to use its name or any other trademarks in future video games. The EA Sports brand will no longer have access to the governing body's intellectual property beyond the current contract, meaning NCAA Football 2014 will be the final title to do so. The decision stems from a lawsuit by former college athletes of alleged use of their likenesses.
I am not sure how I feel about the suit. I am not in favor of paying college athletes beyond their scholarships, but these young men and women should not be expected to produce golden eggs for their schools. I do know that I am sad to see an icon of both sports and video games go away after all these years and titles.
