FFB Advice From An Almost Champion: Waiver Wires Week 5

by Joe

Well, last week took me to 3-1 in the league that I almost won the championship in last season. In the league where there's nothing but smack talk, guess who's 0-4? It's like my worst nightmare come true. I did everything right EXCEPT start Donnie Avery over Alshon Jeffery. You think that's the best move considering that Jay Cutler hasn't hooked up with Jeffery all season and then he explodes for 107 yds and a touchdown. Le sigh.

Thanks to that, guess who got #1 priority in the waivers this week? If you're like me and struggling for a win, or need to replace someone for a bye, then you should probably be looking to pick up these guys:

1. Kenbrell Thompkins, WR Patriots

I really like this kid, especially with Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski still hurt. If they don't make a comeback this week, get Thompkins. He seems to be Tom Brady's favorite target in their absence.

2. Danny Woodhead, RB Chargers

Just when we thought Woodhead was done he scores two touchdowns on the same Cowboys linebacker and has a big fantasy day. If he's still on your waivers go get him as he'll be more involved in the passing game than the running game.

3. Lamar Miller, RB Dolphins

Miller had a touchdown in Monday's blowout loss to the Saints and was involved in the passing game a little bit as well. With the Dolphins down all game, and them using a committee backfield, it's hard for Miller to get more carries but it looks like he'll be the back during red zone attempts.

4. Tyler Eifert, TE Bengals

He's pretty much taken the majority of work from Jermaine Gresham and he's had some big games so far this season as a rookie. The Bengals didn't do much of anything against the Browns but before that he had some decent outings. If you're hurting at TE or just need a flex, he might be worth a shot.

Well, here's to hoping your team doesn't wind up like mine in the trash talk league. Hooray! I'll be back Thursday with another week of "Start 'Em/Sit 'Em".
