One more practice to go

The Packers conducted their final padded workout of training camp today on Ray Nitschke Field before a boisterous crowd that continually chanted throughout, either "MVP, MVP" for Aaron Rodgers or "Super Bowl" for the team.  The crowd even applauded at the final horn of the nearly two hour workout.  The festive atmosphere was tempered by the looming cuts as the team had to get down to 75 players.  While the Packers hadn't released the official list as of this writing, several players were obvious by their absence.  That list included formere 6th round draft choice Jarius Wynn.   He just couldn't overtake the numbers of newcomers such as draft picks Jerel Worthy and Mike Daniels, or free agents like Daniel Muir who has had a very nice camp.  Others not in sight were receiver Shaky Smithson, running backs Du'ane Bennett and Jon Hoese, tight end DeMarco Cosby and guard Rey Dominguez.   Desmond Bishop is expected to land on injured reserve and that will cost him the entire 2012 season because of the torn hamstring.  Running back Brandon Saine returned to practice today.

The team was light on tight ends again as Vic So'oto continued to run scout team at the position.  Even Aaron Rodgers worked scout team quarterback against the defense, running Kansas City Chiefs plays.   Rodgers said after practice it was like the good ol' days when he and Ruvell Martin competed against the starters.

Speaking of Rodgers, he's known to pull a prank now and then but he was on the receiving end in the locker room.   Gathering around his locker were a dozen or so reporters for his weekly press meeting but two minutes in, Rodgers got splashed in the face with a towel loaded full of shaving cream.  The press conference came to an abrupt halt with Rodgers saying, "I'm really gonna get him".  The "him" was fullback John Kuhn.   I'd be careful John.

The final public practice of the summer will be in shells Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM.
