A solid road win in Philadelphia and expected home opening rout of Buffalo has the Packers off to a 2-0 start for only the second time under Mike McCarthy. Some post script items from the 34-7 victory over the Bills...
Starting left tackle Chad Clifton has been battling sore knees for a couple of weeks and has practiced sparingly. He tried to go but lasted only 4 series, giving way to number one pick Brian Bulaga who graded out fairly well according to offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. McCarthy said on Monday that an extra day will help Clifton and he's able to play, he will continue to start at left tackle. Several other players were sporting injuries from the game but only Nick Collins and Desmond Bishop remain a concern. The team doesn't practice again until Thursday. Ryan Grant undergoes surgery today to repair the ligament damage in his right ankle that resulted in him going on injured reserve for the season. The running game without Grant produced 71 yards from Brandon Jackson, John Kuhn and Dimitri Nance last week. Aaron Rodgers added 20 more on scrambles. Rodgers and McCarthy felt it was just productive enough to allow the Packers to utilize the play action game. McCarthy said there was opportunity for more yards and the numbers don't have to be great, they must improve as the season goes along.
As for the defense, it was a scary good afternoon what with a handful of sacks and a pair of takeaways and only 7 points allowed thanks to a unique defensive alignment from coordinator Dom Capers. Check out the feature below on the Packers version of "Psycho".
