Secondary takes a hit

The Packers have lost rookie safety Morgan Burnett for the season after he tore his ACL Sunday against the Detroit Lions.  Burnett isn't sure when he got hurt but played several snaps after the tear before he went to the locker room.  An MRI confirmed the diagnosis Monday.  Burnett was the starter almost from the time he arrived in Green Bay because veteran Atari Bigby stayed away during the organized team activites in June.  Burnett made his first career interception against the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago.   Derrick Martin took over for him against Detroit.  Charlie Peprah will also get consideration but he was inactive against the Lions with a quadricep injury.   If you're thinking about Bigby, it will be another two weeks at the earliest before he can come off the phsically unable to perform list.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers said Monday there were positives and negatives from the game, allowing 431 yards was way too much but what hurt the most was Detroit converting 10 of 17 third down plyys  Capers also wants the unit to stop let quarterbcks pile up big rushing numberes.  Shaun Hill scrambled for 40 yards on a third down snap.

Special teams coach Shawn Slocum wants to keep Jordy Nelson on the kickoff return team, despite two lost fumbles Sunday.   Slocum said Nelson was solid early in the season and he'll be conscientious with ball security.

From inside Lambeau, here are some quotes on the loss of Morgan Burnett:
