The mayor of Beverly Hills - Nancy Krasne - said this week she's outraged over a Miss California USA contestant who spoke out against same-sex marriage in recent media interviews.
Twenty-three year old Lauren Ashley recently said that same-sex marriage goes against God and the Bible.
Ashley's comments came less than a year after Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California USA 2009, made similar remarks about her opposition to gay marriage. Here statements also stirred up controversy with pageant organizers.
I have a question. Aren't people allowed to have an opinion when it comes to certain issues anymore? These women - whether you agree with them or not - were simply voicing their opinions. Perhaps pageant organizers in the future should just pass out talking points to all the contestants and instruct them to march in lock-step and never offer an opinion of their own on any issue. That seems to be what they want.
Remember the old saying, "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it?" It's apparently been replaced by a new one - "I don't agree with what you say, so shut up."
