As always, it's a festive mood today for the Milwaukee Brewers home opener. But just how the team will fare this year is very uncertain. Alot will depend on how the revamped pitching staff fares, which is also very uncertain.
What we can count on is for Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun to be the cornerstone of this franchise once again. When you look at the numbers these guys have produced, it's staggering. Since Ryan Braun was called up from the minors on May 24, 2007, he and Fielder have combined for 233 home runs and 679 runs, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. But if the Brewers don't get Fielder signed to a long-term deal, this dynamic duo may not be together much longer. Braun is locked up for another 6 years. But Fielder's current contract expires after the 2011 season. It'll take a king's ransom to keep Fielder in a Brewer uniform long-term, but can this team really afford to let him get away? Enjoy and appreciate these guys while you can.
